Our Mission Statement, Aims and Objectives

Our Mission is develop the health, fitness, knowledge and skills of young people today and to contribute positively to their overall growth and development.

We aim to turn children into well rounded healthy young adults who understand the importance of exercise and personal responsibility.

Our program is designed to teach discipline, control and respect for themselves and others and to understand how their behaviour and conduct directly influences the experiences of others around them.

We work not only on physical development but to cultivate a positive and target orientated mindset to help children tackle challenges in any walk of life. Our aim is that through exercise our Lions learn personal management skills that benefit them in every area.

Our objectives:

-  Get children to do more exercise, to enjoy it and to create powerful anchors to why and how they should work out.

-  Teach children why they should eat the right foods, the positive effects of a clean and balanced diet, as well as the dangers of highly processed, packaged and micro-waved foods.

-  Develop each child’s unique skills to their maximum potential and give confidence to every Lion to test themselves.

-  Contribute to those who are seeking a career in professional sports.

-  Refer top performers to professional clubs for further development.

In addition to the physical and health goals and targets, our program also includes the following lifestyle issues. These we believe are an essential component in developing the “whole” person:

-  Teach and constantly test first aid skills including dealing with CPR, panic attacks, burns, sports related injuries.

-  Teach Fire Safety to allow our Lions to deal effectively with different types of fire.

-  Work with Local Police to educate Lions as to potential dangers on the streets and in the local community. Develop respect for the Police from an early age.

-  Work with NHS Non-Smoking department to teach dangers and negative side affects of smoking from an early age.

-  Teach the value of contribution to the community and to others, by organizing charity events through this program.

An Outline of our Product, our Purpose:

Who can workout with us?

Children can start Lions from age 7, provided they are deemed able by the instructors, and train with us right up until they are ready to join the adult gym.

At age 7 our primary focus is to develop movement, strength and co-ordination, whilst educating young people as to the dangers of a bad diet, the importance of attitude and personal responsibility.

As the children develop, we work with them to achieve the targets they have set for themselves, such as improved weight, health or sports specific performance. In that respect, they are no different from our adult members. They learn the basics of exercise, then make decisions about personal targets and areas for development. For some this maybe based around running faster to support there Rugby, Football or Hockey. For others, it maybe more geared around improving health and decreasing bodyfat.

As our Lions progress, they are taught more advanced exercises and techniques. This is always done with safety as the number one consideration.

Superstars, Rowing Challenge, Serious Fit, Gym V Gym Football

As per our adult members, we will hold events to give children an opportunity to compete against each other and themselves. We believe strongly in the lessons that competition can teach, whether a child places first or last, and we actively teach them how to conduct themselves and the lessons they must take from each experience regardless of place or position. These events will include a fitness test, Serious Fit, as well as a Rowing race over 2km.

Charitable Contributions

We believe strongly in teaching children the value of giving, and their responsibility to the local community, and to be a positive influence on their surroundings. Our charity events include mini-triathlons and car washes, plus collections at Local sporting events.

Client Screening

Parents must complete an informed consent form for each child prior to any exercise being completed. This is necessary to ensure they are safe to train; any health issues that are potentially worsened by exercise must be highlighted.

Who is teaching your children?

Our coaches…

Helen Collins, Sam Essam, Jon Ellery, Debbie Sayce, Simon Jeffery, James Doolan

In addition to the theoretical qualifications held by this group of people, we place far more importance on the Role Model aspect for this program. You can be confident that if your child comes to a Lions session at Winners 2000, the coach they are working with is someone they can believe in and look up to. It is a bold statement to make, but something we believe in very strongly, how we “walk our talk” and practice what we preach. We believe that young people need to have trainers who inspire them to choose a healthy and positive lifestyle, especially with so many potential negative distractions for young people today.

Amongst our group are national fitness champions, International Karate Champions, qualified teachers, ex-military and professional sportspeople. Only those who we feel sell our message of a disciplined and healthy lifestyle are involved in our Lions project.

Medical Opinion and Advice

Richard Carr-Hyde, Why Juniors must exercise:

There is an old school belief held by some people that exercise for young children is bad for them, can lead to an increased risk of injury and could even be dangerous.

As more research is undertaken, this is being shown to be totally unfounded, and in fact that the opposite is true.

Today, even very young children spend an increased amount of their time sitting staring at computer screens or watching DVD’s.

This, combined with the decreasing emphasis in schools on competitive physical activity and sports, children are leading increasingly sedentary lifestyles.

This lack of activity that was formally provided by children’s play and natural instinct to runaround and exercise together, leads to poor development of motor skills, muscle strength, flexibility, endurance and a decrease in cardiovascular development.

Combine this with a very poor modern diet and its no wonder that it’s predicted that this generation of children will have a higher level of morbidity than their parents.

Also consider the psychological aspects of this for children who leave the totally non-competitive school environment and walk out into a hugely competitive world.

Therefore, there are huge benefits for young children to take part in supervised exercise with experienced instructors, who can educate them on not only safe and purposeful exercise, but effective eating habits.
