Winners 2000 In The Community – Our Mission Statement…

Winners 2000 is in business to improve the health and fitness of our members, and to make a difference in the community. Success is helping people live more balanced and fulfilling lives, and taking them places they only dreamt they could go.

We are never afraid to say what hasn’t been said, or do what hasn’t been done.

We work with open eyes and ears to new information and research, to ensure the product we present to our clients is always the very best and most importantly, works for them.

24 hour project – Wild Fox Adventure Play

This amazing event has now taken place and was a huge success. We needed your help to raise the funds to allow for the construction of this amazing Inclusive Play Area. This park will be available to all children and is the first of its kind to be built in the Paignton area.

The first stage of the Wild fox play park has now been completed!

A great new tree house built by Sky TV’s construction team with specialist tree house builders from Austria was completed in just 5 days! The tree house has disabled access so everyone can enjoy it and it has a fantastic beach theme, complete with beach huts and a boat!

The next stage will be developing the lower level play park area, and we have been informed that some of the money we raised on our 24 hour event will be going towards a zip wire for the children, again built with the intended use for all abilities.

Mayfield School – Our Mission, £7000, and we need your help…

A bit about Mayfield, from Rachel Hawthorne, Deputy Head teacher.

Mayfield School is an all age [2-19years] school for pupils with severe and profound learning Difficulties. All members of our school are very proud to belong to it because it is a caring, safe, supportive and fun place to be. We are committed to the rights of our young people to receive an appropriate and meaningful education and believe that it is essential to celebrate the smallest steps of achievement. In recognition of the excellence that exists in Mayfield we will be making a bid for Special School Specialist Status in Cognition and Learning. The bidding process is lengthy and demanding and the school has also to raise £20,000 to submit the bid. We have been successful in raising £13,000 thus leaving £7,000 still outstanding. Winners 2000 has taken on responsibility for raising the £7000 over the next 6 months, and we want your help to do so.

We will be running 3 events this year, namely:

Fashion Show and Party – Friday 17th September, Winners 2000 Newton Abbot.

This fashion show and party will feature live music and DJ, and the latest Autumn range of clothing from Hoopers. In addition, an auction of outstanding gifts, including premiership football tickets, clothing and accessories from Hoopers, meals, hairdressing vouchers, and many many more.

Activity Day, Wednesday 20th October 2010, Mayfield School.

We wanted to give the children their opportunity to get involved and to take ownership of the project. The pupils have wide ranging physical abilities, but we have set up a series of events that will allow each child to take part and test themselves in a suitable event. Activities include inter school football, trampolining, swimming, dancing and fun run. Teacher will be taking part as well!

Midnight Walk for Mayfield – Friday October 8th

Join us and walk across Babbacombe sea front, through Stoodley Knowle and back, around a 12k walk, starting at midnight, from the Torquay gym. On our return, food and drink will be available to all participants. Open to non-members, £5 entry fee and we would love you to get as much sponsorship as you can to help towards the overall target.

We really hope you want to be part of our effort, and welcome everyone, member or non-member, to get involved and enjoy giving, contributing and help people who deserve that support.

Combe Pafford School – Our Commitment and our successes

Over the past 10 years, we have made it part of our Mission Statement to be actively involved in the community, and to help people where we think they deserve it, and where we feel we can. We are fortunate to have so many good members who really work hard to give what they can, and enjoy the process of contributing, helping others.

We have since 2000, raised funds almost exclusively for Combe Pafford School in Watcombe. Combe Pafford is an amazing school, which provides an incredible service for children with moderate learning difficulties. The headmaster, Mr Lock, is an amazing man, who puts his whole heart and soul into the school, and he is wonderfully supported by his assistant head teacher, Edward Thompson, and a special group of teachers. It is a special place, and one we love supporting, and will go on supporting for ever.

In 2004 Combe Pafford needed to raise around £25000 to apply for specialist school status. The process is a long drawn out affair and takes hours of time and lots of effort. In short, the school has to raise that sum and they are then able to access a much larger pot to allow them to improve the services they give to their pupils.

We were only too happy to get involved and ran a series of charity events, using our members as participants, from fun runs, to gym v gym rugby and football, and many more. We were able to raise over £5000 towards their application.

In January 2010 a group of dieters from our Newton Abbot and Torquay gyms raises over £2000 to send 12 children on a vocational trip to China. The members were sponsored by the pound of weight they lost over a 4 week period. The children had a fantastic trip and we were presented with a banner saying “thank you” in Chinese on their return.

We continue to support Combe Pafford in whatever way they want it, and however we can. IT is a very special place, where teachers are full of passion and commitment, and the pupils all get a superb education, in life skills as well as academics. They deserve support and backing from all of us.

We remain committed to delivering our mission; improving the quality of lives of our members, and making a difference in the community.
